Chemo slippers chemotherapy S/M-pair
Cryotherapy in general or the use of cold garments/ice bags applied to extremities during chemotherapy, is a considered to be the best method to prevent or minimize treatment related neuropathy.
2 different types of cold therapy , socks and slippers are also clearly explained in the video attached below.
Indications
- Peripheral neuropathy: the published preliminary research suggests that cold therapy (i.e. icing the hands and feet using cold mittens and/or slippers) during chemotherapy may decrease the likelihood of developing this potentially permanent side effect
- Diabetic neuropathy: check with your doctor if allowed to use
- Hand-foot syndrome (HFS), also known as palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE)
- Treatment prevention side effect chemotherapy with cold therapy
- Typical for treatment with taxanes (nails): treatment with Docetaxel-Paclitaxel
Contra indications
- Not intended for walking: slippery and piercing of the inner gel cushion if walking on sharp floor or stones
How does hand and foot cooling work?
- Blood circulation in the fingers and feet is reduced during therapy.
- This lowers the concentration of the drug that can damage the nerves in the fingers and feet.
How is vasoconstriction or narrowing of blood vessels achieved?
- Through compression: e.g., tight-fitting gloves or socks.
- Through cold: e.g., cooling.
